Wells Fargo Advisors

Sometimes a company wants to stay with the current platform (i.e. on premises) but wants their system transformed from the current language or databases into a new language or database. An example of a project where we did this is Wells Fargo Advisors. They had over 42 applications to support their portfolio consultants. The applications were in .Net, Java, JavaScript, etc. They ran all this under Smart Station from Thomson Reuters.

Our job was to build a SPA to hold SPA(s) that would convert this set of applications into a consolidated front end. We all agreed on Angular 2. We build the SPA to hold the SPA’s and the framework SPA for the individual products. On the back end we used MVC and rest services in .Net to handle the communication to the SPAs.

This transformation consolidated the user interface for the client and gave them the ability

to remove the 3 rd party program from their system.

What we did:


  • Created a new on premises platform to host all the applications for financial advisors.

  • Created several templates for developers to follow to convert existing applications. Provided digital experience for financial advisors and clients.

  • Created a system that is easily expanded, easy to modify features and functionality, and easy to add features and functionality.

The transformation;


  • Would save hundreds of hours training the portfolio advisors how to use the disparate collection of applications.

  • Would return about 20% of advisor’s and allow applications to run on tablets.

  • The advisor could then meet clients anywhere to review their portfolio.

  • Adding additional security to the trading system allowed Wells Fargo to avoid a very large penalty from the SEC.

The client wanted two things. Build a MDM database and make sure all mainframe applications in the department of revenue ran on the DB2 database. Previously many applications did not even use a database.

For Agile Thought we were helping build the worldwide Audit system for one of the Big 4 Accounting companies. This was a green field project. This application had to take the client profile and generate the audit program for the accountant to follow. Account rules for all countries covered had to be developed. Because of the size of the database, it had to be shared by microservice and replicated around the world. The front end was designed in React and GraphQL. The back end was .Net with GraphQL library. The system had observability using App Insights. The database was Azure SQL Server.

For FM Global we designed and built the Azure platform which would hold their on- premises applications as well as their client portal. The digital transformation here was build a green field Azure platform and portal and then transition their on-premises applications to .Net with Micro services. The front end of this platform is React and Apollo GraphQL. The back end of the system is .Net micro services with Hot Chocolate GraphQL. The database is Postgres.

The second thing they wanted was a portal for tax information and tax payments. Also, they wanted the Secretary of State’s office to be able to accept submissions and revisions of corporations online. We designed an Oracle 12c Rac database for the ETL from the mainframe. Then we designed and built a .Net back end to support the queries and data input. The front end was written in Angular.

We have done several digital transformations where the code base goes through a lift and shift to the cloud or is re-designed into micro services on a cloud platform.

What we did:


  • Created a new on premises platform to host all the application front ends for the department of revenue and secretary of state.

  • Created several templates for developers to create a digital presence for people and businesses to be able to access corporate and personal tax information, pay taxes, and interact with the secretary of state.

What we did:


  • Created a new greenfield platform to host worldwide audit system.

  • Created an Audit system to dynamically create Audit Books for auditors to use with their clients. The system also assisted the auditor in the audit process.

  • Created a Digital Experience for accounting personnel and clients.

  • Created a system that is easily expanded, easy to modify features and functionality, and easy to add features and functionality.

  • Added AI to help scale the system and add analytics to business processes.

What we did:


  • Created a new platform in the Cloud for Digital Transformation

  • Added new online digital experience for clients, client employees, and insurance brokers.

  • Added analytics and telemetry to the system for monitoring the experience and functions of the system.

  • Created a system that is easily expanded, easy to modify features, and easy to add features and functionality.

  • Added AI to streamline business processes and analytics.

The transformation:


  • With the self-serve portal available to businesses and people of the state phone and walk in traffic dropped by 50%.

  • Adding other services to the platform further reduced traffic for other agencies as well.

The transformation:


  • By digitally generating the audit book for the accountants saved more than 30% of the preparation time involved in an audit.

  • By allowing clients to submit their documents electronically also took out another 30% of the time.

  • Partners could review online the progress of their accountants.

  • Clients could review their audit progress and questions online.

The transformation:


  • By building standard templates for the developers to follow we were able to get 90% of the code assembled in a consistent manner. This allows for a much easier support process.

  • Developers were able to focus on the business logic needed and not the infrastructure.

  • This cut 30% out of the development time and allowed developers to learn the patterns of micro-services and modular React.
